The two live production audio/visual units that flank the City of Toronto Council Chamber are its broadcast communications nerve centres. unit a was asked to devise a way to increase the privacy of staff who work in these booths. Working in an iterative process with an extensive user group comprising building management, security, ergonomic specialists and the City’s heritage preservation staff, we developed workstation designs, custom fire hose cabinets, gates and frosted glass screens attached with stainless steel brackets to the original travertine walls.
Enhanced project management services during construction permitted unit a to develop detailed drawings for coordination with the various trades and a full scale mock-up was undertaken to test the design prior to fabrication. A significant challenge of this project was performing installation and construction within an highly sensitive live environment without interrupting client operations.
