This project involved a schematic study for a residence in North Toronto. Located along a small escarpment, the residence was designed to take advantage of a one story drop on the site. The garage is hidden from the street. At the end of the driveway is a separate apartment to serve as a nanny-flat or rental unit. The residence is approached via a grand staircase rising from the street to a landscaped terrace off of the living room.
The interior spaces are organized around a central core of stairs. The main floor includes a sunken living room, dining room for twelve and a kitchen/family room that overlooks the back terrace, reflecting pool, landscaping and stair leading down to a gym and movie theatre in the basement. The second level includes a main bedroom with separate walk-in closets, make-up counter, private terrace overlooking the rear garden, laundry room and a second bedroom. Finally, the top level is designed to capture the most of the views of downtown Toronto in the distance. Here two studios and terraces act as entertainment spaces as well as an office location.
